12 Pro-Life Quotes From Pope Francis
1. “It is God who gives life. Let us respect and love human life, especially vulnerable life in a mother’s womb.”
- on Twitter, May 15, 2013
2. “All life has inestimable value even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect.”
- Message to Catholics taking part in annual Day for Life in Britain and Ireland July 28, 2013
3. “Let’s say “Yes” to life and “No” to death.”
- Message to Catholics taking part in March for Life in France Jan. 19, 2014
4. “Every child who, rather than being born, is condemned unjustly to being aborted, bears the face of Jesus Christ, bears the face of the Lord, who even before he was born, and then just after birth, experienced the world’s rejection. And every elderly person… even if he is ill or at the end of his days, bears the face of Christ. They cannot be discarded, as the ‘culture of waste’ suggests!”
- Speech to Catholic healthcare professionals and gynecologists Sept. 20, 2013
5. “All too often, as we know from experience, people do not choose life, they do not accept the ‘Gospel of Life’ but let themselves be led by ideologies and ways of thinking that block life, that do not respect life, because they are dictated by selfishness, self-interest, profit, power and pleasure, and not by love, by concern for the good of others.
…As a result, the living God is replaced by fleeting human idols which offer the intoxication of a flash of freedom, but in the end bring new forms of slavery and death.”
- from homily at Mass for ‘Evangelium Vitae Day’ June 16, 2013
6. “Unfortunately, what is thrown away is not only food and dispensable objects, but often human beings themselves, who are discarded as ‘unnecessary.’ For example, it is frightful even to think there are children, victims of abortion, who will never see the light of day; children being used as soldiers, abused and killed in armed conflicts; and children being bought and sold in that terrible form of modern slavery which is human trafficking, which is a crime against humanity.”
- Speech to diplomats Jan. 13, 2014
7. Human life must always be defended from its beginning in the womb and must be recognised as a gift of God that guarantees the future of humanity.
- Pope Francis, Letter to Brazilian families for National Family Week, August 6, 2013
8. “I join the March for Life in Washington with my prayers. May God help us respect all life, especially the most vulnerable”
- on Twitter, January 22, 2014
9. “The victims of this [throwaway] culture are precisely the weakest and most fragile human beings – the unborn, the poorest, the sick and elderly, the seriously handicapped, etc. – who are in danger of being ‘thrown away’, expelled from a system that must be efficient at all costs.
…It is necessary to raise awareness and form the lay faithful, in whatever state, especially those engaged in the field of politics, so that they may think in accord with the Gospel and the social doctrine of the church and act consistently by dialoguing and collaborating with those who, in sincerity and intellectual honesty, share – if not the faith – at least a similar vision of mankind and society and its ethical consequences.
- Speech to a delegation from the Dignitatis Humanae Institute Dec. 7, 2013
9. “We are called to reach out to those who find themselves in the existential peripheries of our societies and to show particular solidarity with the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters: the poor, the disabled, the unborn and the sick, migrants and refugees, the elderly and the young who lack employment.”
- Message to the 10th General Assembly of the World Council of Churches dated Oct. 4, 2013
10. “The right to life is the first human right. Abortion is killing someone that cannot defend him or herself.”
- Cardinal Bergoglio with Rabbi Abraham Skorka in book ‘On Heaven and Earth’
11. ”We should commit ourselves to ‘eucharistic coherence,’ that is, we should be conscious that people cannot receive holy communion and at the same time act or speak against the commandments, in particular when abortions, euthanasia, and other serious crimes against life and family are facilitated. This responsibility applies particularly to legislators, governors, and health professionals.”
- Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, Pope Francis
12. ”Defend the unborn against abortion even if they persecute you, calumniate you, set traps for you, take you to court or kill you.”
- Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, Pope Francis

Good Out Of Bad
God Always Brings Good Out of Bad
By June Klins
Recently, I was asked how I got involved in Medjugorje. I have shared parts of my story before, but never felt prompted to share the whole thing until December 8, 2013, as I was praying near the statue of Our Lady in our Adoration Chapel.

THE LORD IS MY LIGHT
"A people living in darkness has seen a great light." -Matthew 4:16
Jesus, in His merciful love, can't bear the thought of a world in darkness. He declares: "I have come to the world as its Light, to keep anyone who believes in Me from remaining in the dark" (Jn 12:46). Yet some prefer the darkness and hate the light (Jn 3:19-21). There is no bushel basket (Mt 5:15) or wall thick enough to block out the Light of the World. So the people who hated the Light tried to extinguish the Light. For three days, they were successful, and the Light was buried in a tomb. However, Jesus is risen from the dead! "The light shines on in darkness, a darkness that did not overcome it" (Jn 1:5). Now Jesus the Light shines through us, His disciples (see Mt 5:14).
The people in darkness have seen a great light (Mt 4:16; Is 9:1). Many are attracted to the light, and stream toward it (see Is 2:2). Others prefer the deeds and lifestyle of darkness and will continue to attempt to extinguish the light, as if that were possible. Since we are now Jesus' lamps in the world, we must expect that His opponents will attempt to extinguish us in their futile attempts to darken the world. Eventually the only option for those who love darkness is to flee the light and find a place of permanent darkness. Some will detest the light so much they will beg the mountains and hills to cover them (see Hos 10:8; Lk 23:30; Rv 6:16). Repent of the futility of preferring darkness and opposing the light. Come to the Light, and join the victorious side (Jn 1:5).
Father, Shine Your light on any darkness in my life.
Dear children!
Today I invite you to become missionaries of my messages, which I am giving here through this place that is dear to me. God has allowed me to stay this long with you and therefore, little children, I invite you to live with love the messages I give and to transmit them to the whole world, so that a river of love flows to people who are full of hatred and without peace. I invite you, little children, to become peace where there is no peace and light where there is darkness, so that each heart accepts the light and the way of salvation. Thank you for having responded to my call. Medjugorje message, February 25, 1995

Let our hearts be open to the Holy Spirit
How can Satan drive out Satan? (Mark 3:23-30)
If you’ve ever been near an airfield as a huge jet takes off, you know that it can be a very powerful experience. The deafening noise, the forceful gust, and the shaking ground can make your pulse quicken and your whole body tingle.
Now imagine that you can erase the airplane and the noise, but keep that excited feeling. That’s how some people have described their experience of the Holy Spirit: a quickened pulse, a sense of awe, and an excitement over all that his power can accomplish.
Sometimes, however, the Holy Spirit’s work can be very subtle: perhaps a chance encounter or an answer to an unspoken prayer. It’s this kind of experience, this subtle work of God, that can be overlooked all too easily.
In today’s Gospel reading, the people see Jesus’ miracles and fear that his power is of demonic origin. But Jesus is quick to attribute the miracles to the Holy Spirit. He even rebukes them for slandering the Holy Spirit. It’s striking to see him defending the Spirit as if he were a brother or a close friend.
This close relationship with the Holy Spirit is something that God wants us to develop as well—a relationship so close that we can detect his subtle movements just as easily as his more obvious ones. Pope Francis recently urged us along the same lines:
“Let’s ask ourselves: are we open to the Holy Spirit? Do I pray to him to enlighten me, to make me more sensitive to the things of God? This is a prayer we need to pray every day, every day: ‘Holy Spirit, may my heart be open to the Word of God, may my heart be open to good, may my heart be open to the beauty of God, every day.’ ”
Today, try to identify the Spirit’s work in your life. Pray that you may be open to the word of God, to the goodness in the world, and to the beauty that we experience in creation and in our relationships. Don’t wait for the noise of the jet!
“Holy Spirit, show me the ways that you are working in my life and the path that you have planned for me. Help me to recognize and acknowledge the big and little miracles you have done in my life.” http://wau.org/meditations/current/
Dear children! As I call you to prayer for those who have not come to know the love of God, if you were to look into your hearts you would comprehend that I am speaking about many of you. With an open heart, sincerely ask yourselves if you want the Living God or do you want to eliminate Him and live as you want. Look around you, my children, and see where the world is going, the world that thinks of doing everything without the Father, and which wanders in the darkness of temptation. I am offering to you the light of the Truth and the Holy Spirit. According to God's plan I am with you to help you to have my Son, His Cross and Resurrection, triumph in your hearts. As a mother, I desire and pray for your unity with my Son and His works. I am with you; you decide. Thank you. (Medjugorje Message to Mirjana of June 2, 2011)

Testimony of married couple Kanizaj from Zagreb
date: 21.01.2014.
Numerous pilgrims visit Medjugorje every year and their testimonies are like little pieces that form beautiful mosaic, picture of Medjugorje.
Married couple, Neli and Igor Kanizaj emphasise that every visit to Medjugorje is for them great joy and new, deep experience. Igor got to know Medjugorje in his young days, while he was a member of the Franciscan Youth, and each of his visits was bringing him something new, primarily peace:
“Medjugorje is oasis of peace, shelter. I always like coming to Medjugorje, even for a short period of time, and that changes my life after I return to Zagreb, where I live and work. There are so many fruits and each visit brings something new.”
On the other hand, Neli, his wife, refused to come to Medjugorje for a long time, but decided to come just because she was longing to receive a child.
Despite all her hypocrisy and lack of faith that she had when she came first to Apparition Hill, before Gospa, Mother of God heard and answered her prayers. “I was ashamed because I came without faith and with such resentment. I felt peace, warmth and I felt welcomed. Only one month after we came back to Zagreb I realised I was pregnant. “ This couple has today Noa who is seven years old. http://www.medjugorje.hr/en/

Medjugorje Reflections
Medjugorje
Or Do You See What I See
In the early 1980s I began to hear about a little town in what was then Yugoslavia called Medjugorje. I couldn’t pronounce the name of this town let alone spell it. The reports coming from this little town however fascinated me and I wanted to know more. You see I’m not only Italian American but also Roman Catholic. As a Catholic I had grown up with stories of saints and apparitions of our Blessed Lady in both Fatima and Lourdes but these apparitions were happening during my lifetime.
Somewhere in the back of my mind I always kept the story of this town and I vowed that one day I would go there myself and see what I could see. Years passed, as life has a way of doing and war came to Yugoslavia. Even during those war years I often wondered how the people of this town were fairing and if our Lady had indeed prepared them for the worst. The war ended in 1995 and seven new countries were formed; Albania, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is where the town of Medjugorje is.
It is pronounced med-ju-gor-e, pretty much the way it is spelled. The town rests high in a hill, 40 minutes south of the city of Mostar in the southwest region of the country. Getting to it by bus isn’t easy and the ride from Croatia took about five hours. Once you arrive in town at the bus station you must walk past souvenir shops selling religious medals, rosaries and statues; you will also walk past restaurants and hotels. My husband entered one of the local restaurants to ask a few questions and as he turned to leave the waitress said, “Be sure to see the statue of Christ beyond the Church, it weeps”. And so it began.
The complex in Medjugorje is like nothing I have seen before. There is the main church which seats 500 or more people. There is the outdoor chapel area which seats 7,000. There is the area for lighting candles for your special intentions; prayer altars along the path to the cemetery and if you feel the need to go to confession you can do so in about a dozen languages. They hold mass every hour of the day from 10:00 to 6:00pm and every hour the mass is in a different language. There is the cemetery; apparition hill, and that Statue of Christ. We were told that upwards of a million people come to Medjugorje every year. They have been coming since the apparitions began and they came even during the war.
I first entered the main church and found only one person inside. It is a plain but beautiful church and the second I opened my mouth to say my first prayer I began to sob. The strong feelings overcame me so quickly I couldn’t pray for that which I had come to pray for, at least not out loud. My husband told me that God didn’t need to hear the words; he knew what was in my heart. It was still hard not to be able to say that which I had held in for all these many years.
Leaving the church we went next to the area where the Statue of Christ rises. The Statue was erected in 1989. It is made of Bronze. And almost immediately after it was put into place people noticed the liquid running down its leg. Walking towards the statue of Christ I again was overcome with emotion and began to cry. There is a step stool for people to get closer to the statue to see the liquid running down his leg and if I hadn’t seen it for myself I know I would be reading this with skepticism and I asked my husband how could this be? I had to touch the liquid for myself and as I wiped it away another tear appeared and then another and again I began to cry. It is hard to explain the deep emotion this place brought forth from me.
We were there for 6:00pm mass this night and walking back to the church we saw buses arrive bringing more people in to attend mass. It was a Monday night in winter; cold and dark; and there wasn’t a seat to be had inside the church, people had filled the pews and it was standing room only. Because the church was so full there were six priests on the altar during mass and everyone was needed to give out communion. Almost everyone in the church received the sacrament. Normally, when a mass finishes people begin to flock out the door; this night however no one moved for a prayer service began after the mass and most of the people stayed to continue praying. After the prayers the priest blessed any of the religious items purchased that day in the gift shops, and even after that people stayed to keep praying. We left only because we needed to catch our bus to Mostar.
My husband who is not a religious person told me that he feels that something special is happening at Medjugorje; what it is exactly we couldn’t put our finger on, its just something you feel, and see, and believe. As for me I cannot explain the deep emotions that overcame me on this day. I have been trying to sort that out. I wasn’t crying out of sadness or grief, I was crying because the presence I felt was so strong that I was overcome with emotion, and hope. I still light candles in churches I visit in other places but I feel somehow that I’ve already lit candles in a place where my prayers will be answered, even though God had to hear them from my heart.

Pope Francis -- The Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Message from Our Lady:
"Dear children! Today I invite you to open yourselves to God by means of prayer so the Holy Spirit may begin to work miracles in you and through you. I am with you and I intercede before God for each one of you because, dear children, each one of you is important in my plan of salvation. I invite you to be carriers of good and peace. God can give you peace only if you convert and pray. Therefore, my dear little children, pray, pray, pray and do that which the Holy Spirit inspires you. Thank you for having responded to my call."Medjugorje Message (May 25, 1993)

HEARTS CHANGE AT MEDJUGORJE
There are some places and some people in life that ‘mark’ you forever. Once you have come in contact with them, they revive in you everything that seemed buried within your heart forever.
Then you recapture a life full of joy, serenity, and purpose. You understand the reason you are living, where you have come from, and where you are going. You take your life back into your hands with vigour. You rediscover a design of love in your life that trials and difficulties have buried. Then you feel like a new person, and even others are aware that something has changed your life.
The place that has ‘marked’ me and millions of other people is called Medjugorje. It is different from other places because there is a ‘Presence’ there that you do not see but whose effects and benefits you gather. It is a Presence that speaks to our hearts and manifests itself in a personal manner for each one of us. This presence is Mary the Mother of God.
In Medjugorje we discover that this mother, the Queen of Peace, wants to enter our lives. That is the reason she says to us: “Dear Children, accept me in your lives, because I desire to bestow my love upon you.”
