"Dear children, open your hearts and try to feel how much I love you and how much I desire for you to love my Son. I desire for you to come to know Him all the better, because it is impossible to know Him and not to love Him - because He is love. I, my children, know you. I know your pain and suffering because I lived through them. I laugh with you in your joy and I cry with you in your pain. I will never leave you. I will always speak to you with motherly tenderness. And I, as a mother, need your open hearts to spread the love of my Son with wisdom and simplicity. I need you to be open and sensitive to the good and mercy. I need you to be united with my Son, because I desire for you to be happy and to help me to bring happiness to all of my children. My apostles, I need you to show everyone the truth of God, so that my heart, which suffered and today suffers so much pain, can win in love. Pray for the holiness of your shepherds, so that in the name of my Son they can work miracles, because holiness works miracles. Thank you."

PERSEVERANCE IN PAIN
"They gave their disciples reassurances, and encouraged them to persevere in the faith." -Acts 14:22
After being beaten unconscious, dragged out of the town of Lystra, and left for dead, St. Paul regained consciousness and went back into Lystra (Acts 14:19-20). Paul was fearless, unstoppable, and persevering. After leaving Lystra, he soon returned to reassure the disciples and encourage "them to persevere in the faith" (Acts 14:22). Paul had credibility when he talked about perseverance. He had cuts, wounds, and bruises, which were the price of perseverance.
Paul proclaimed: "I put no value on my life if only I can finish my race and complete the service to which I have been assigned by the Lord Jesus" (Acts 20:24). From prison, Paul wrote: "My entire attention is on the finish line as I run toward the prize to which God calls me - life on high in Christ Jesus" (Phil 3:14). When he spoke of his imminent death, Paul asserted: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Tm 4:7).
Paul and all Christians are so intent on persevering in the Faith, their vocations, and their commitments because Jesus persevered when He put His "hand to the plow" (see Lk 9:62) and "set His face" toward Jerusalem (Lk 9:51, RSV-CE) and toward Calvary. Jesus promised: "Whoever holds out till the end will escape death," that is, the second death of damnation (Mt 10:22).
We have the miracle of perseverance not by our power but by the Holy Spirit, Who confirms us to persevere under the worst of circumstances. Pray and suffer in the Holy Spirit to receive the grace of perseverance.
Father, may I never stop loving You. May I always love You more, never less.
"My peace is My gift to you." -Jn 14:27

Pope Francis to Anglican-Catholic Commission: Holy Spirit Can Accomplish the Impossible
Says Blood of Persecuted Christians Will Nourish New Era of Ecumenism
Vatican City, (ZENIT.org) | 1168 hits
Pope Francis says that the cause of Christian unity is "not an optional undertaking" and that the Holy Spirit can accomplish what "humanly does not seem possible."
The Pope said this Thursday when he received in audience the members of the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission. The group is studying the relationship between the universal Church and the local Church, with particular reference to processes for discussions and decision making regarding moral and ethical questions.
The issue is key for ongoing dialogue with the Anglican Communion, which is facing internal rifts over the decision to allow the episcopal ordination of women.
The Pope acknowledged "new difficulties and challenges" in the dialogue
"Though we are fully aware of the seriousness of the challenges ahead, we can still realistically trust that together great progress will be made," he said.
He congratulated the commission members on the five jointly agreed statements of the second phase of the Anglican-Roman Catholic dialogue, with commentaries and responses, that are soon to be published.
"The cause of unity is not an optional undertaking and the differences which divide us must not be seen as inevitable," he continued. "Some wish that, after fifty years, greater progress towards unity would have been achieved. Despite difficulties, we must not lose heart, but we must trust even more in the power of the Holy Spirit, who can heal and reconcile us, and accomplish what humanly does not seem possible."
Ecumenism of blood.
Pope Francis affirmed that there is a bond of unity among Catholics and Anglicans that goes beyond any division: the testimony of persecuted Christians.
"The blood of these martyrs will nourish a new era of ecumenical commitment, a fervent desire to fulfill the last will and testament of the Lord: that all may be one," he said. "The witness by these our brothers and sisters demands that we live in harmony with the Gospel and that we strive with determination to fulfill the Lord's will for his Church. Today the world urgently needs the common, joyful witness of Christians, from the defence of life and human dignity to the promotion of justice and peace.
"Together let us invoke the gifts of the Holy Spirit in order to be able to respond courageously to 'the signs of the times' which are calling all Christians to unity and common witness."--

WITHOUT PENTECOST THERE IS NO CHURCH

REGINA COELI: WITHOUT PENTECOST THERE IS NO CHURCH
VATICAN CITY, 23 MAY 2010 (VIS) - Following this morning's Eucharistic celebration in the Vatican Basilica for the Solemnity of Pentecost, Pope Benedict XVI appeared at the window of his study to pray the Regina Coeli with faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square below.
In his remarks the Pope explained that "the mystery of Pentecost", which we identify with the appearance of the Holy Spirit in the Cenacle, "is the true 'Baptism' of the Church, but it does not finish there. In fact, the Church lives constantly in the effusion of the Holy Spirit without which she would exhaust her energies like a sailing ship without wind.
"Pentecost", he added, "is renewed especially in certain particularly intense moments, both at the local and universal level, in small assemblies and in great gatherings". Among these, the Holy Father mentioned Vatican Council II, and "the famous encounter of ecclesial movements with the Venerable John Paul II here in St. Peter's Square at Pentecost 1994.
"Yet", he went on, "the Church experiences countless 'Pentecosts' which enliven local communities: the liturgies, especially those experienced at special moments in community life, in which the power of God is perceived particularly clearly, infusing souls with joy and enthusiasm".
"Thus, there is no Church without Pentecost. And, I would like to add, there is no Pentecost without the Virgin Mary. So it was at the beginning, in the Cenacle. ... So it is always, in all places and times. I myself witnessed as much a few days ago in Fatima, Portugal. What did that immense multitude experience on the esplanade of the shrine, if not a renewed Pentecost?".
"This", the Holy Father concluded, "is the experience typical of the great Marian shrines (Lourdes, Guadalupe, Pompeii, Loreto) and of the smaller ones. Wherever Christians come together in prayer with Mary, the Lord gives His Spirit".

Messages from Our Lady, Today I invite you
A call to conversion, to mend our ways, to freshen ourselves, to wash ourselves clean, to prepare for and allow the Holy Spirit to enter our lives once more, is echoed throughout Our Lady’s messages from Medjugorje.
Dear children! Today I invite you to open yourselves to God by means of prayer so the Holy Spirit may begin to work miracles in you and through you. I am with you and I intercede before God for each one of you because, dear children, each one of you is important in my plan of salvation. I invite you to be carriers of good and peace. God can give you peace only if you convert and pray. Therefore, my dear little children, pray, pray, pray and do that which the Holy Spirit inspires you. Thank you for having responded to my call. May 25, 1993
Dear children! Today I call you, through prayer and sacrifice, to prepare yourselves for the coming of the Holy Spirit. Little children, this is a time of grace and so, again, I call you to decide for God the Creator. Allow Him to transform and change you. May your heart be prepared to listen to, and live, everything which the Holy Spirit has in His plan for each of you. Little children, allow the Holy Spirit to lead you on the way of truth and salvation towards eternal life. Thank you for having responded to my call. May 25, 1998
Dear children! I rejoice with you and in this time of grace I call you to spiritual renewal. Pray, little children, that the Holy Spirit may come to dwell in you in fullness, so that you may be able to witness in joy to all those who are far from faith. Especially, little children, pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that in the spirit of love, every day and in each situation, you may be closer to your fellow-man; and that in wisdom and love you may overcome every difficulty. I am with you and I intercede for each of you before Jesus. Thank you for having responded to my call. May 25, 2000
Dear children! Also today I call you to prayer. Renew your personal prayer, and in a special way pray to the Holy Spirit to help you pray with the heart. I intercede for all of you, little children, and call all of you to conversion. If you convert, all those around you will also be renewed and prayer will be a joy for them. Thank you for having responded to my call. May 25, 2003

CALLED TO THE WITNESS STAND
"A time will come when anyone who puts you to death will claim to be serving God!" -John 16:2
The Holy Spirit witnesses for Jesus and calls us to do the same (Jn 15:26-27). This is one of the main reasons why many Christians don't want the Holy Spirit to be very active in their lives. Although they realize that witnessing is an act of love which will lead people to Christ, they also know that witnessing will result in personally suffering and being persecuted. Jesus' witnesses will be expelled even from Church and, moreover, may be put to death (see Jn 16:2). In Greek, the word "witness" is "martyr," someone who physically lays down his life for Jesus and is violently put to death.
We all want life in the Holy Spirit, or we at least want the emptiness of life without the Spirit to be filled. However, we often don't want the Holy Spirit enough to suffer. The cost of Pentecost is the cross, and not many want to pay such a high cost.
Ask the Lord to give you a desire to receive the Holy Spirit that is even greater than the desire to avoid pain. Only love is stronger than our natural desire to avoid pain (see Sg 8:6; Ps 63:4). Look at a picture of Jesus hanging on the cross. Ask for and receive love. Strongly desire the Spirit. Thirst for the Spirit (Jn 7:37). Receive the Spirit. Receive an even greater love. Receive a new Pentecost.
Father, may I consider Your love a greater good than life (Ps 63:4).
"She already reverenced God, and the Lord opened her heart to accept what Paul was saying." -Acts 16:14

Pope, Christians should turn to the Holy Spirit in preparing for martyrdom – great or small
Pope Francis in St. Peter's Square 1 before the Wednesday general audience on April 22 2015.
“A Christian who does not take the dimension of martyrdom seriously in life does not understand the road that Jesus has indicated,” the Pope said May 11, according to Vatican Radio's translation.
Addressing the congregation at the Santa Marta residence chapel, Pope Francis said the road indicated by Jesus invites “us to bear witness every day, defending the rights of others; defending our children; mothers and fathers who defend their family; so many sick people who bear witness and suffer for the love of Jesus.”
He encouraged Christians to turn to the Holy Spirit to remind them of Jesus' words, and guide them in preparing to be witnesses “with small every day martyrdoms, or with a great martyrdom, according to God’s will.”
All Christians are capable of “bearing witness” of the Easter message “without being scandalized,” the Pope said.
According to Vatican Radio, Pope Francis recalled in his homily a phone conversation with Tawadros II, head of the Coptic Orthodox Church on Sunday, during which he spoke of the Egyptian Christians recently martyred on the beach.
The pontiff was making reference here to an ISIS video, released last February, which shows the beheading of 21 Coptic Christians.
“Thanks to the strength given them by the Holy Spirit they were not scandalized. They died with the name of Jesus on their lips,” the Pope said.
“This is the strength of the Spirit. The testimony. Martyrdom is the supreme testimony.”
Monday's homily was centered on the day's Mass readings, specifically the Gospel of John in which Jesus speaks of the Holy Spirit descending:
“When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me. And you will also testify” (John 15:26-27).
The Church is guided along a journey by the Holy Spirit, the Pope said, who serves as our companion, while defending us from “the scandal of the cross.”
The cross is a scandal for the Jews who “ask for signs,” the pontiff observed. On the other hand, for the pagan Greeks “who ask for knowledge and new ideas,” the cross is foolishness.
The Holy Father also spoke of the “scandal of persecution” in reference to those who preach the Gospel.
“They will expel you from the synagogues: in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God.”
Pope Francis spoke of those who kill Christians in God's name. “This is Christ’s cross: 'They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me.'”
“This happened to me – Jesus says – it will happen to you too – the persecutions, the tribulations – but do not be scandalized: the Holy Spirit will guide us and help us understand.”

The Pentecost Novena Starts on Friday, May 15
The Pentecost Novenais the first of all novenas, nine days of prayer. After Jesus' Ascension into heaven, He commanded His disciples to come together in the upper room to devote themselves to constant prayer (Acts 1:14). They prayed for nine days before receiving the Holy Spirit on Pentecost.
On May 4, 1897, Pope Leo XIII proclaimed: "We decree and command that throughout the whole Catholic Church, this year and in every subsequent year, a novena shall take place before Whit-Sunday (Pentecost), in all parish churches." It has been reported that Pope Leo XIII was inspired to mandate the Pentecost novena because of a letter from a housewife in Italy. Pope John Paul II has reiterated Pope Leo XIII's command for a worldwide Pentecost novena, although the novena can be prayed at any time — not only before Pentecost.
Try to go to Mass daily throughout the novena. Go to Confession during the novena. Make visits to church to adore the eucharistic Jesus throughout the
novena.

Do Not Be Afraid
"Do not be afraid. Go on speaking and do not be silenced." -Acts 18:9
On the first Christian Pentecost, the Holy Spirit dealt in a magnificent way with tongues. First, the Spirit appeared in the form of "tongues as of fire" (Acts 2:3). The apostles yielded their formerly silent tongues to speak in both native and foreign languages, proclaiming the prophetic Word of God (Acts 2:4ff). Their hearers used their tongues to repent and ask how to be saved (Acts 2:37).
Once the Spirit has your tongue, the battle begins. Satan accuses you of being foolish (Acts 2:13) and attacks any fears you may have. The world attempts to intimidate and silence you. This is what the apostles experienced once the Spirit took over their tongues. Nevertheless, the apostles yielded to the inspiration of the Spirit, not to the attacks of Satan and the world.
When we yield our tongues to the Spirit, the pressure to stifle the Holy Spirit and hold our tongues is so fierce that the Lord personally assures us:"Do not be afraid. Go on speaking, and do not be silenced, for I am with you" (Acts 18:9).
The Pentecost Novena, nine days of prayer to prepare to receive the Holy Spirit in fullness at Pentecost. Give the Lord your mind, heart, soul, and tongue. Ask the Lord to teach you "what to say and how to speak" (Jn 12:49). Allow the Holy Spirit to control your speech in both your native tongue and in the spiritual gift of tongues.
Father, I ask You in Jesus' name to prepare my heart to be a worthy dwelling place for the Holy Spirit.
Father, make me a bold and loving witness for Jesus everywhere.
"I give you My assurance, whatever you ask the Father, He will give you in My name." -Jn 16:23
